What We Do

About Consultations and Treatment Plans

At Sarah Jay Paediatric Physiotherapy we aim to optimise your child’s physical function and maximise their ability to participate in movement activities at home, school and in the community.

Your child’s physiotherapy will be individually tailored to address their unique needs, abilities and interests.

A typical consultation for your child may involve:

  • History taking and discussion with a focus on understanding the primary concerns, needs and goals of the child and family

  • Musculoskeletal, posture, gait and movement skills assessment

  • Play-based, task-specific exercise to facilitate motor skill development, strengthen weak muscles, stretch tight muscles, improve balance and coordination

  • Recommendations with regards to the use of equipment to improve physical function such as orthosis, orthopaedic footwear, specialised seating or walking aids

  • Parent and carer education/training

  • Provision of a home program detailing specific recommendations and play ideas to support your child in achieving their goals

  • If required, physiotherapy follow up will involve reassessment, review of goals, ongoing goal directed therapy/task-specific training and updates to home programs.

Frequency and need for follow up physiotherapy sessions will vary depending on your child’s and family’s needs. Physiotherapy may involve a 6-week block of weekly sessions to target a specific need or monthly sessions for children who benefit from less frequent, ongoing therapy input. After your initial consultation, we will work with you to develop a treatment plan that is best suited to your child and family.
